Reusable Definition A bag with handles that is specially designed and manufactured for multiple reuse and is (1) made of cloth or fabric and /or (2) made of durable plastic that is at least 2.25 mil thick.
Stores Affected
Retail establishment means any retail business including, without limitation, clothing, household goods, or personal items of any kind that sells directly to a customer. Examples include but are not limited to department stores, clothing stores, jewelry stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, home improvement stores, liquor stores, convenience stores, gas stations, and ...view more markets. For purposes of this Ordinance, food banks, public eating establishments defined as restaurants, take-out food establishments, or any other business that receives 90% or more of its revenue from the sale of food which is prepared on the premises, to be eaten on or off its premises are not defined as retail establishments. view less

Notes 3/12/2014 the paper bag fee was cancelled and no longer applies. 7/16/2013 Santa Fe Finance Committee has endorsed a proposed bag ban with in city limits for plastic bags and a $0.10 fee on paper. The proposal is headed for a public hearing in late August 2013. 5/23/2013 The City's Business and Quality of Life Committee has approved a measure that would ban plastic and impose a fee on paper. They plan to introduce the measure next week to the City Council.
